Antique Circa 1815 Cranberry Glass Box with Silkwork Lid of Panton House England George III Era Rare

Sumptuous, elegant and refined are just some of the adjectives that we would use to describe this rare George III oval dressing table box from the Prince Regent 1815 period.

This small box is made from wonderful cranberry glass with rich, buttery gilding all around its base perimeter in the form of acanthus leaves. The underside of the cranberry oval box is decorated with a deep cut star burst design. The oval lid is made from a metal tole which has a gilded border and top edge. The border depicting a running foliage and flower design. The center of the oval lid houses a gorgeous silkwork embroidery with central rectangular colored engraving. The engraving has the title to the base of 'Panton House, Lincolnshire'. The silk ground is covered in pretty trailing floral motifs that flank the central engraving. The stems of the plants are worked in couched, gold wrapped silk thread. Tiny hand stamped metal spangles in silver, gold and green make up the flowers and leaves. Four rows of exceptional gold wrapped thread encircle the central engraving. This thread has remained bright and golden after two centuries.

Measuring 17 cm (6.5")by 11.5 cm (4.75") by 5.5 cm (2.25")

Condition - The original glass is missing to the top of metal lid and has been replaced many years ago by a protective sheet of thick plastic. There is a small chip to the inner lip of the oval cranberry glass base. There is wear to the gilt Acanthus leaf design gilding. The silkwork ground has darkened a little with age. There is age related dust and debris trapped under the lid. The engraving and metal spangles are in very good order with just one loose.

This is a STUNNING object to adorn your collection. Its appeal is so wide, from cranberry glass collectors, to needlework collectors and of course, like us - lovers of all things Georgian and Regency.
