This tiny little coin purse was made to safely store one's precious gold or silver coins. The cut steel frame still glistens and still retains its original push button opener that closes with a good, satisfying snap. The pretty micro beaded rose and rose bud design is particularly appealing. The bottom third displays an intricate teardrop design that was a very popular motif found on Norwich shawls during this early period. Please see identical examples of this purse Candice Hern's exceptional blog on Regency Beaded Sovereign Purses ( link provided on our favorite links page).
Measuring 3.25" by 3" at its widest. Early 19th century beaded coin purses were tiny as they would be hung from a chatelaine (see the little suspension loop to the rear) or hung from the wrist or stored inside a reticule. They are not to be confused with the later and larger Victorian examples.
Condition is good but after 200 years not quite pristine. This is not a vintage item, this antique textile accessory was produced during the Regency period (UK), Federal period (USA), Empire period (France). There is some minor rusting to the cut steel frame. There is a repaired small hole in the knitted beadwork to the rear and a repaired edge to the front just under the corner of the steel frame. The original silk purse lining has long since deteriorated. Amazingly this coin purse has retained its original base tassel.
This will make a stunning addition to your discerning antique purse collection. Please view our other antique purses. These small Georgian fashion accessories make THE perfect collecting field as they are of small size for easy storage/ display and they were made with love from luxury and highly decorative materials.
