A scarce pair of all original 18th century miniature Georgian silkwork embroideries that are offered in original, unopened condition. Both silkworks are housed within their original gilded oval frames with inner bead decorated border. Both frames have their original bubbled glass and top metal suspension loops.

This pair of small silk needleworks depict an elegant Peacock and an English Bullfinch. The peacock is busying himself scanning the ground looking for a meal; the handsome bullfinch has been startled and is about to take flight. Both birds are worked using long stitch (a common stitch during the 18th century). Both depictions are worked on the finest woven silk ground. They have been kept away from harsh sunlight and damp English walls as their colors are still vivid. Most importantly there are no signs of perishing to the silk ground.

This stunning pair has never been opened and to the reverse you will see their original framers label. This is a real bonus and helps us reaffirm their date as James Heskett of No 13 Sweetings Alley, Royal Exchange was a Map, Prints and Chart Seller who operated at this address from 1784. This pair were wrought close to this date as the ‘S' in the trade label to the reverse are written as ‘F'.

This is a rare opportunity to own such small-scale Federal period treasures. They are perfect for your English Country House inspired interior....see last image which is taken in natural daylight

Measuring: Frame width 6.25 inch (16 cm) by height 5.5 inch (14 cm). Frame depth 7/8 inch (2.5 cm). The red bullfinch bird's frame measures approximate 2/8 inch smaller. Aperture width 4.5 inch (11.5 cm) by height 3.75 inch (9.5 cm).

Condition: There is a small repaired section with historic chip to the peacock frame at 3 o clock, this was done a long time ago. There is a small historic area of gilt touch up to the Bullfinch frame. The silk ground is in good strong order and the silk coloring is still vibrant. The peacock has one loose long stitch thread as seen on the grassy ground.
