A gorgeously decorative oval, boxed shape pillow made from a panel of original hand woven 18th century tapestry. This tapestry originated from the Aubusson weaving area of France in the late 1700s- early 1800 period. One of a pair each sold separately. The perfect addition to your country house style.
It is wonderful to have a figural central image of a small child. We see a young child collecting sticks surrounded by typical Rococo swags, scrolls and plinths. The tapestry panel has retained a good color with only minor fading. This Aubusson tapestry was made into a cushion/pillow probably in the late 1970s, early 1980s - judging by the choice of backing fabric and trim! It has been backed with a green cotton corduroy fabric with a loosely stitched band of abstract design cotton braid to the edge. It has an inner feather cushion pad.
Size: Oval 16" (41 cm) by 12" (31 cm) by 4.5" (12 cm). All images taken in natural English daylight, sorry quite a grey, rainy day here today!!
Condition: The tapestry panel is several hundred years old and does show its vast age a little, there is room for improvement. It is unrestored, you can clearly see a few holes and areas of loosening to the woven ground. The 1970s abstract braid could easily be removed and replacement fringing would then make this pillow superb. However, none of these points would prevent this cushion from currently being displayed alongside your other antique pillows.
