Antique Miniature Dolls Swing Toilet Mirror With Drawer Circa 1870
This mirrored dresser is oh so sweet and so unusual that we could not resist. Although not on par with a Chippendale quality item of furniture, the beveled swing mirror and beveled front mirror make this an absolutely charming and very unusual example. We would think that father or grandfather made this for little grand daughter's special doll.
Dating to the last quarter of the 19th century this working dressing mirror measures 9.5" tall by 6.25" by 3.5".
The wooden carcass is made from stained pine with a mahogany hinged lid and handsome mahogany turned supports. The central rectangular mirror is absolutely original with its canted corners, beveled edges and pretty metal flower suspension covers. This little mirror swivels nicely and obediently stays in position. Under the rising lid is a mirrored faux drawer front which is again absolutely original with beveled edges and the same metal nail suspension covers. One lifts the hinged lid to reveal a central storage compartment. This is a superb space to store house keys, loose change, hair accessories or jewelry. To the underside are the four original yet naive pine feet.
Condition is all untouched and absolutely original. If we had to be picky we would mention that the original mirror plate has signs of distress/ aging but not too bad at all (customers pay more for this with antique mirrors). The right side metal flower cover is a little squished. The mahogany has a warm, mellow coloring and a good patina where little hands have used this treasure over the past 100 plus years.
This is a very delightful antique 19th century treasure waiting to start the next chapter in its long life............
