This is a most unusual and all original English George III needlework upon silk with its pretty, pale gilt octagonal frame and old bubbled glass. This gorgeously elegant composition is unopened and dates to the early Federal 1800 to 1810 period.
This is the perfect needlework to compliment your Jane Austen inspired interior that depicts a subject that never dates. It looks divine displayed alongside other Federal / Regency period antiques.
To the center is a handled basket which is laden with seasonal fruit, grapes, pears, apples etc. Surrounding the central subject is a gorgeous trailing design with pretty oak leaves and acorns. All of the embroidery is executed in colored wools upon a plain woven silk ground; the skill level is very accomplished.
Measuring: Frame width 11.75 inch (30 cm) by height 13 inch (33 cm). Frame depth 7/8 inch (2.5 cm). Aperture width 10.5 inch (27 cm) by height 11.5 inch (29 cm).
Condition: There are three tiny rice grain size holes in the silk ground at approx 9 o clock, probably from insect damage. There is slight darkening to the center of the silk background just above the basket handle but honestly very minimal (our studio lights over accentuate this). There is some loss of wool to just one oak leaf at 1 o clock. There is a small area of staining bottom left 7 o clock, looks like rust from a backing nail head.
