Antique Early 19th Century Beaded Purse Circa 1800 AF
A very pretty little survivor from the Georgian period. Most probably made in France during the 1800-1810 period. This small purse once secured by drawstring and never by a metal frame. See the original beaded tassels that remain to each edge and the faint remains of silk thread that held the metal drawstring suspension loops in place. Yes, this pull chord purse would have then safely tucked inside your pocket or reticule.
The knitted beadwork body shows a profusion of floral delights. The opaque glass ground beads glow with a gold intensity. We adore the blue flowers as to create depth and texture the ground has deliberately been left showing to the centre of the blue edged petals. Retaining its original base tassel, this beauty could so easily be brought back to its full glory with the addition of top metal loops and a silk draw cord....
Size: 3.25" by 3.5"
Condition. One small hole to the mustard glass beaded border to the rear. One side beadwork tassel has lost its filling. The original silk lining has long since perished. All reflected in the price.
