This is an unusual and striking silver plated basket made by James Tufts of Boston in the Victorian era. The double basket measures 11 inches long, 6 1/2 inches wide and 13 inches to the top of the handle. It sits on four scrolled feet and is decorated with a beaded edge. There are four mythical stork like griffins centered near the twisted handle and the middle of the basket has a flowered screen divider. It is in amazing condition for it's age! There is pitting inside the bowl, mostly on one side. But it is still silver so it leaves me to believe that this was possibly replated at some time. The silver is in excellent condition. Imagine this beauty at your holiday table with sweet buttered rolls or at a fancy luncheon filled with strawberries and sweetmeats! What an impression!
