This is a vintage US Army Air Forces pendant with royal blue enamel in great condition. The oval emblem part also has green wings and white star with red circular center, and is raised on the longer base for great dimension. My pictures show a darkened area at the bottom right of the star, but it is not visible to the naked eye, and the enamel is perfectly smooth, most likely a slight discoloration from manufacture. It presents wonderfully, is unmarked, and is suspended from a nice vintage sterling silver rope chain, 18 inches long. The unisex rope chain is well made, marked Italy and 925 next to the clasp. The Air Corps (United States Army Air Service, started in 1926) was the predecessor of the Army Air Forces, which wasn’t created until June 20, 1941, six months before Pearl Harbor. The Air Force as we know it today was established in 1948, so this piece is from sometime between 1941-1948. Such a charming find for Air Force/military/armed forces collectors. Military homefront jewelry items made during the second World War era are so charming, and very collectible. This piece is just as beautiful and marvelously sentimental today as in the past! A great way to show support for our Air Force and/or a loved one serving. One like it is pictured on page 92 of Nicholas D. Snider's book, Antique Sweetheart Jewelry, 1996 ed.
