This amazing sterling silver camphor glass necklace with matching earrings set is hard to find, a very collectible World War II sweetheart or homefront pieces. These are usually worn in remembrance of a loved one in the service of the US Navy, and to show support for our sailors. This beautiful Art Deco style sterling silver and camphor pendant with ornate filigree floral style pendant is quite large at 1 and 5/8 inches tall and 1 and 1/8 inches across. The pretty camphor glass has a frosted finish with a radiating star burst or sun ray reverse carved pattern. There are 4 pretty ornately stylized prongs that hold the 1 and 1/4 inches long camphor glass securely in place. In the center of the pendant is the USN insignia/emblem in gold fill. The anchor center is riveted through the camphor glass; it does not move about sideways, and hangs straight, is very firmly set. It is marked sterling on the back. The earrings match the symbol, and are ½ of an inch tall and ¼ of an inch wide, they are screwbacks and marked sterling (with gold fill) on the turn knobs. The original sterling chain is 17 inches long. It is a fine chain and has a seldom seen old clasp you twist to open and close, marked Sterling on the clasp. The sterling silver has a warm, age appropriate vintage patina. This marvel is in excellent condition for its age. It comes in the original blue and gray velvet box. An exquisite piece of history, it is just as appropriate today as back then, meant to be worn proudly!
