Paul Sprohge (American, 1901 - 1990)
Hand Pulled Lithograph. This great litho has both an oriental and nautical theme.
Paul Sprohge (1901 - 1990) originally from Latvia, emigrated to the US in 1937. In 1956 Mr. Sprohge started doing paper lithographs, a process using paper as the plate from which prints are made. This piece is a fine example of his unique process. There is an element of individuality to each print in the series which makes them somewhat like a monoprint. He did not make more than four per plate; each perceptibly different. His work has been in many exhibits and shows.
This was purchased from a Houston, Tx. estate several years ago.
