A beautiful little French silver sedan chair for sweetmeat treats for your doll. A similar one featured in the Musee Vendeuvre of French Fashion Doll Accessories. It has the original carrying arms and a door that opens and closes with a clasp. It is decorated in the Rococo style reflecting back to the 17th and 18th centuries when ladies traveled in sedan chairs.
The chair measures 2 1/2 inches high by 1 inch square. The carrying arms are 3 inches long.
The underside is hallmarked with the French Silversmith's maker's mark and it also has the French silver quality mark of the Sangier or Boar's head which date it to after 1838.
It is in excellent condition. I have not cleaned it preferring to leave the original patina as many prefer that aged look. The door opens and closes easily and is secured by the decorative scrolled handle. The interior is vermeil gold gilt. Vermeil was used to prevent the acidity of sweetmeats from tarnishing the silver. I can just imagine a secret trove of little bonbons being placed in this little treasure to be discovered during play with a fabulous doll that had everything.
