Stunning Silver Lip Mother of Pearl from Magassar in Indonesia was used to make this fabulous pair of lorgnette opera glasses from the House of Valery at Number 25 Boulevard Capucines, Paris in 1900. Having the inner tubes of the telescoping system covered with Mother of Pearl is a rarity in opera glasses. This beautiful pair also has the focus screw on the top bridge dressed with Mother of Pearl. The maker, Frank Valery, used only the finest Magassar silver lip Mother of Pearl and he was determined to show it to its most decorative best effect in this creation.
The opera glasses measure 4 inches by 2 inches telescoping to 2 3/4 inches. The lorgnette handle telescopes from 4 inches to 6 1/2 inches.
The condition is exceptional. They are as useful today as the first day they were made. The Mother of Pearl is free from splits, cracks or chips. The lenses are clear and have no scratches, chips or cracks. The telescoping mechanism on the handle and the focus mechanism are in perfect working order.
This pair of opera glasses are investment quality and destined to become a family heirloom for many generations to come.
