1800 Rosary Beads Filigree Silver Enamel Crucifix Cross and Gablonz Glass Beads South Central Europe
The Credo Cross representing Faith Hope Love and Charity tells us that this rosary was pre 1820 as the credo cross was dropped from rosaries after that date. The chain links had replaced silk cord at the end of the eighteenth century in these rosary types and so it is correct to date it to circa 1800.
It measures 17 inches in length. All the Ave and Pater beads are present.
The rosary has the embossed 12 silver quality mark of 815 parts silver to 1000 purity. The other mark is a city mark from one of the towns in South Germany or the Austrian Hungarian Empire. Further research is needed to identify it.
The enamel cross is set in filigree silver and it has the Blessed Heart on one side and the crucified Christ on the other side. The enamel is slightly dented but in overall good condition.
The Gablonz Bohemian ruby glass beads are faceted in what is known as The English Cut. They are in excellent condition and there are none missing.
