This rare and beautiful table, sideboard or hall stand centrepiece is in superb condition and reflects the excellent design and use of decorative materials in the last decade of the nineteenth century.
The Jugendstill period of design extended from 1880 to 1920 in Germany, Scandinavia and Austria. It overlapped with the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau period. It was influenced by Scandinavian as well as German and Austrian design.
WMF invented a process called the Patented Silver Plating Process in 1892. They recognized that silver plating wears through to the underlying metal on exposed points and edges. This process applied twice the thickness of silver to those exposed areas and as a result the item is a far superior product. The process is now known as Perfect Hard Silver Plating and it remains exclusive to WMF today.
The opalescent glass bowl has clear glass at the bottom which blends into white or milk glass before spectacularly changing to Cranberry or Ruby at the beautifully curved and waved rim.
The centrepiece stands 16 inches high. The diameter of the bowl is 12 inches. It weighs 3 pounds 3 ounces.
The Silverplate is in superb condition and proves the quality of the production process.
The glass bowl is free from chips, cracks or flea bites.
