A beautiful Art Deco pair of opera glasses by Deraisme of Paris and sold by Optician Pablo Ferrando, Montevideo, Uruguay.
The opera glasses measure 3 1/4 inches by 1 1/2 inches telescoping to 2 inches.
This pair of opera glasses are in perfect working order. The shell is free of chips, cracks or splits. The lenses are in perfect condition. The focus mechanism is in excellent working order. There is a part of the optician's name rubbed on one eye piece.
This unusual pair of small opera glasses are beautifully decorated in the Art Deco style of alternating light and dark geometric rectangles of Mother of Pearl and Abalone shell. They were made by Deraisme of Paris for the opticians shop of Pablo Ferrando in Montevideo. These would have been used in the Theatro Solis opera house in Montevideo probably for a performance of Tomás Giribaldi's La Parisina. Paris was the fashion centre of the world and to own a Paris made pair of opera glasses would have been very fashionable then. These are small and ideal for fitting in the corner of an evening bag or a small pocket.
