This example is a modern reproduction of an Art Deco period vase design. The original design was created for the Curt Schlevogt Company by renowned glass artist, Artur Pleva. A Czech glass manufacturer now makes these vases in the heavy, malachite green colored glass you see in this listing, as well as in other treatments, under their brand name of Desna. The Desna mark has been used since 2002.
The makers of Desna pieces clearly mark the items they make, so they seem more an homage to the great glass designers of the past, rather than an attempt to be deceptive. But because novice collectors may not be aware that the mark on such a piece is an indication it is contemporary, mistakes can easily be made when purchasing on the secondary market. Also when buying keep in mind that some unscrupulous sellers may find a way to remove a new maker's mark and add a false (and older) maker's mark in its place.
