This example is modern fantasy blue and white transfer decorated dinnerware. The lid and body show a castle transfer design reminiscent of similar designs on antique blue and white transfer printed pieces. This type of heavy pottery has been sold for the past few years by several reproduction wholesale sources. Decorative 'nostalgic' items can now generally be found in gift shops, interior design stores, or 'antique' malls. This type of item is really only good for decoration. They should never be represented as antiques, nor even vintage, as most examples will have been made only recently.
Also, imported decorative 'antique-look' fakes are frequently stated by the manufacturer (when newly purchased) to not be intended for food use, but they may enter the country only with a paper label to warn of issues that make them unsafe for real food service. Any newer dinnerware-type item that is found to be completely unmarked as to maker or country of manufacture should always be regarded with some suspicion. One should consider whether the glaze may not be entirely lead and impurity free. For this reason it might be a good idea to never actually employ this 'tureen' at the table to serve the family.
Measures 10 inches long, by 5 inches wide, and about 4 inches tall.
