Known as Old Colony or Open Lace, this pattern was made by Hocking Glass Co. 1935 - 1938. Collectors have disagreed whether this 7-3/4 inch dish is a salad bowl or the bottom of a covered butter dish. Some assert that the true salad bowl was ribbed. Whichever you think this one might be, it is a very nice dish that can certainly be used for many things or just for display.
A bit of green or red ribbon woven through the edge and tied in a bow can dress it up for Christmas. Other colors would do the same for any festive occasion. Although other companies also made this pattern, it is said that the Hocking dishes "clunk" when flicked with a finger while the others had a "ring." This one clunks. Measures 1-3/4 inches tall and there are a few minor use scratches and a single small chip on the rim.
