Among this set of vintage cards is one that was delayed. Not belated as the common word today. Two books in pink and blue contain Cheer and Happiness to bring “Delayed Birthday Wishes.” Cut-out on the edges, it is dated 1942 in my mother’s hand. Marked as a Forget-Me-Not card on the back, measures 5-3/4 by 5 inches and has a tear on the turning edge. What could be cuter than the little girl cradling a baby duckling in her hands to bring you a birthday message. On the inside she waves to the duckling as it paddles away across the pages. And on the back of the card, the duckling is swimming away. Signed in my own childish hand dates it about 1950. Another Forget-Me-Not card that is 5-3/4 by 4-1/2 inches.
Framed in pale green, there is a clear embossed cellophane covering the young lady gathering flowers in the garden. It shimmers in natural light, but not picked up very well in the pictures. Marked as a Rose Moderne card, it comes with the original envelope. On a flowered background a young girl with a bonnet and armful of flowers wishes “Happy Birthday, Mom” Marked by GB, it comes with its original envelope and measures 5-1/2 by 4-1/2 inches.
