After 35 years stored in our attic, this vintage picnic basket is ready once again to be used for your knitting, mending, or perhaps a real picnic. The original lid was made from a particle board material and water stained (see last photo). But it has been recently replaced and now has an added custom-cut layer on the inside bottom. Although there are still some water stains evident (a leaky roof?), it is still sturdy and well made. The top basket rim is double reinforced with nailed slats inside and outside. The bottom frame is a 3/4-inch square with the vertical slats nailed with a similar strip around the bottom. Narrow horizontal slats are 1-inch; vertical ones are 1-1/2. Minor damage to a few of the slats. Overall basket measures 18 by 13 deep inches and 10-1/2 tall (not counting the upright handles).
