Wondering if this little bottle of the popular Old Forester whiskey was a complimentary gift to passengers of Southern Airways? Or was it an item for purchase? “Bottled Especially For Southern Airways,” the bottle is empty with a dried out tiny puddle in the bottom and the lid is quite firmly attached. It could of course be easily soaked loose and the bottle cleaned. Measures 4-1/2 inches tall and held 1/10 pint of 86 proof whiskey.
Southern Airways began as a local carrier in 1949. Still with a long successful career, the airline was beset by tragedies in the early 1970's which included a hijacking and two fatal accidents. In 1979 it was merged into North Central Airlines. Following two additional mergers, it exists now only in the historical records of Delta Airlines.
