Hasbro knew that boys didn't play with dolls and so they called their new 1964 collection action figures and they quickly became a favorite among children's toys. The four original figures were a sailor, soldier, marine and a pilot. This GI Joe sailor has lost his white cap and his right foot and is trademarked with patent number 3,277,602 which indicates a production date between 1967 and 1975. The flocked hair (creating the term Fuzzheads) were released in 1970. Family history of the child who played with this figure would date it about 1975.
Pants and shirt have been mended where needed, hand washed, line dried, and ironed. Measures 12-inches tall. Signature scar on his right cheek. Joints are firm and in working order. Stress fractures above each knee (see photo), a common fault with these toys. Vintage GI Joe boots and a foot can be found online. One small bare spot on the back of his head (also see photo).
