Looks just like a miniature cake cover doesn't it? Or maybe it's for one of those giant blueberry muffins you saw in the bakery. Designed with what is called spun aluminum, this piece is actually a cover for a cheese plate. Although the original plate for this set is long gone, it was most likely made out of wood (to match the knob) and would have had a slot around the outside rim to fit the lid. A band of decorative leaves wrap around the outside rim. Diameter is 5-1/2 inches and not counting the knob, is 2-3/4 inches tall. One small dent can be seen in photo. Perfect for that big fat muffin you want to save for later.
