Motto prints or picture poems as they are also called were quite popular 76 years ago and "Mother" was a favorite subject. A unique combination of the artist or illustrator with the poet. Today those old originals are quite collectible. Poem here is titled "My Mom" and across the bottom "Roses of the Month" perhaps indicating this was one of a series. The good news is this one is dated on the back as a gift on Mother's Day 1939. The bad news is the original backing paper (now 76 years old) is falling apart with age.
Except for my mother's signature on the back and the cute sticker, I would have had it repaired long ago at a professional frame shop. More than half of the back has been mended with what could only be electrical tape. Still has the original hanging piece: a two-link chain screwed into the frame holding a half-inch ring. Frame itself is a embossed and painted wood typical of the 1930's and proof it is the original frame for this poem. Buyer's decision to repair or leave as is. Measures 10 x 13 inches.
