A Lutheran song book with the owner's name embossed on the front cover - Louise M. Fugel (?). Includes the words for more than 600 hymns with the music score of just the first lines of several that must have been favorites. I confess to having kept this little book for many years not knowing what it was or even certain what language. But when I discovered a co-worker who was German, I took it to work with me and she identified it immediately.
There is no ISBN number. Not even a mention of the Library of Congress. On one of the first pages it reads: Entered according to an Act of Congress in the year 1866...in the Clerk's Office of the District Court of the United States for the Southern District of New York. Published by Trow's Printing & Bookbinding Co. in New York. (And those are the only English words in the whole 458 very thin pages.) Pages are gilt-edged. Front fly sheet and one page are loose. String-bound. Except those mentioned, all pages appear secure. Cover is leather over cardboard. Measures 6-1/8 by 4 inches. A book collector's treasure.
