Published in 1957 this book club edition still has the original colorful insert still laying within the front cover. Below The Salt is the story of how King John of England was forced to sign the Magna Charta 700 years ago and also about Princess Eleanor who had a better claim to the throne than her Uncle John. The 12-page insert (titled Wings) mentions that this edition will be available to Guild members for a cost of $2.50 and $3.50 when it is released later in the year to the public.
Inside is a testament from Costain who tells about his writing of the book. There is also advertising for Doubleday Publishers list of best sellers with short synopses of each. Book is in very good condition with the original dust cover which shows wear around the edges. Measures 8-1/2 by 5-3/4 inches with 480 pp. Insurance may be declined at checkout.
