Antique 1880's English Victorian Sterling Swallow Mourning Locket.
Beautiful example of the Victorian silver mourning locket, ever so cherished in England in the later 1800's.
Comprised of sterling silver fashioned into a good size oval locket with a lovely Aesthetic movement scene engraved on the face. The scene is depicting a serene swallow soaring above a pond with foliate above and below.
Originally there would have been slim framework and glass to encase photos of departed beloved.
The locket opening is on the left side, when viewing the locket face up.
Locket bears English hallmarks, including the left facing lion passant hallmark for Sterling and the manufacturers mark J.F.
Locket measures 2-1/2 inches high (including bail) by 1-1/2 inches wide.
Weight is .55 ozt (troy ounces) correct measurement for sterling.
Ever, ever so slight ding at the top, behind the clouds in the sky (seriously have to scrutinize to see). Antique condition is otherwise excellent. Endearing!
