Antique 1860's - 1880's Victorian Mourning Jewelry Rectangular Whitby Jet Wide Expansion Bracelet.
This piece is an absolutely incredible example of Whitby Jet Mourning Jewelry. Comprised of large black faceted rectangular pieces of polished Whitby Jet....pierced and strung into this stunning and substantial bracelet. The bracelet is strung on black elastic cord that will expand to stretch over the hand. Bracelet will hang very loosely on a smaller wrist or expand up a bit to adapt to a larger wrist.
Bracelet measures 7 inches inside circumference (around) and expands about 3/4 inch. Each jet section measure 1-1/4 x 7/8 x 1/2.
Queen Victoria of England wore Whitby Jet Jewelry while mourning the death of her beloved husband Prince Albert....beginning in the 1860's and lasting the remainder of her lifetime. Hence, very fashionable during this era.
Bracelet is unsigned. Whitby England.
Bracelet weighs 57 grams.
