Antique Early 1800's Georgian Rose Cut Diamond Cluster Silver and 14K Engagement Ring.
This is an incredible antique piece comprised of a gold and silver ring mounting set with a faceted rose cut diamond in the center.... in a circle or border of nine smaller rose cut diamonds with bead detail on each shoulder. The cluster of diamonds are all collet set and are most likely foiled beneath....as was common practice with this type of jewelry from this time period. The cluster of diamonds are set in an enclosed back and mounted to a gold ring shank. The gold has a warm rosy hue.
The center diamond displays a little bit of pale yellow or champagne color in certain lighting. The overall color of the remaining diamonds is a glittering silver gray that is found so appealing in these antique cut stones!
The center diamond measures approximately 4-1/2 to 5 millimeters or .40 - .50 carat in size. The remaining nine diamonds measure approximately 4 millimeters or .25 carat in size each. These measurements are approximate as it is difficult to determine the weight of these old cut stones. Approximate 2.50 total carat weight conservatively.
The mounting measures 1/2 inch in diameter.
Ring size currently falls just in between a size 8-1/2 and 8-3/4 and could be re-sized by a jeweler that is skilled in working with antique jewelry.
Ring is unmarked. Tested positive for 14K.
Weight is 3.9 grams.
There is evidence of a prior sizing inside the shank. Ring shows age appropriate wear including a small chip on the edge of one diamond.
Overall very good antique (approximately 200 years old) condition. Fascinating!
