Antique 1880's -1890's Victorian Ornate 14K Locket with Hair Compartment and Seed Pearl.
This is a wonderful example of antique Victorian mourning jewelry comprised of a very highly detailed locket designed in a type of shield shape .....embellished with raised scroll and shell detail and cannetille beading.....finished with a tiny seed pearl. Deep compartment opening in the back for safe keeping of a dearly beloved's hair. Clear cover in place. The small raised shell on the front appears to be a cover to another opening but alas is not so....for decorative purposes only (trying to pry open would be a no-no). Bale will accommodate a slim to mid weight neck chain.
Locket is unsigned and unmarked....tested positive for 14K. The bale tests positive for 9K and has probably been replaced at some point in time. The cover or lid on the hair compartment does not test for gold but is gold filled or rolled gold plate
Locket measures 1-1/2 inches high by 1-1/8 inches wide.
One of the tiny arm bracelets (left side) has been pushed in a little bit. Would not advise attempting to correct it for fear of damaging the piece. Antique condition is otherwise excellent. Divine!
