Vintage 1980's Alba Jaime Quiroz Enamel Mexico Sterling Cleopatra Necklace.
Absolutely incredible piece by Jaime Quiroz a long time employee / artist of Margot Van Voorhies (Margot De Taxco)....using one of Margot's original molds.
The necklace is comprised of a pattern of tulip shape links embellished with turquoise, black and rust enamel....joined together to form a substantial neck chain. The neck chain is suspending a gorgeous and large pendant fashioned into a dimensional profile of Cleopatra. The pendant is embellished with enamel in the identical colors as the neck chain with the addition of blue and golden yellow enamel work as well. Incredible workmanship and striking combination of color detail. The pendant is detachable and may be removed and worn as a brooch as well. This necklace is very weighty and substantial in size.
It is my understanding that Margot released some of her molds to a few of her employees / artists either prior to or after her death in 1974. Jaime Quiroz being one of them.
Neck chain is signed in two places on the back....Hecho en Mexico Alba with a T # (difficult to decipher) and 925. The pendant is signed on the back identically.
Neck chain measures 18-1/2 inches long by 3/8 inch wide. Large pendant measures 3 inches high by 2-1/4 inches wide.
Entire necklace weighs 2.86 ozt (troy ounces) correct measurement for sterling or 88.9 grams.
Necklace is in original condition....has not been polished. Excellent vintage condition. Magnificent!
