Vintage 1960's African Trade Bead Necklace Venetian Millefiori Trade Beads Brass Bicones and Bells.
This is an amazing necklace comprised of lost wax cast brass bicone beads........hand strung on dense cord (without a clasp).....embellished with tubular Venetian millefiori trade beads and red glass trade beads.....finished with lost wax cast brass bells, a belt hook and other fetishes and or status symbols.
History: This necklace was purchased in Africa in the late 1960's.
The tubular shaped millefiori beads are Venetian in origin and were brought to Africa by way of ship, trade, and were highly prized. They are a multi layered and fascinating process. Antique circa early late 1800's - early 1900's. Highly collectable and becoming scarce and expensive.
Red beads are European in origin. Antique circa late 1800's - early 1900's.
The bicone beads are lost wax cast brass as well as the bells, belt hook and other symbols. They are all unique in size and shape with the exact age being difficult to determine. Most likely early 1900's as well...but could be as late as the 1960's.
Necklace is unsigned.
