A Neo Gothic French Silk Brocatelle Panel
Dating from 19th century
Exceptional quality finely woven brocatelle in three shades of green on 18th century looms
Raised three dimensional weaving featuring circular medallions of fleur de lys
Both selvage edges present
Excellent antique condition. Has never been used. Was never originally intended for use but a document piece
SIZE: 24 inches high x 21.5 inches wide
Paper label attached which states. Brocatelle 3 Greens. St Louis
St. Louis probably refers to Saint Louis King Louis IX of France
This symbol was adopted by the French monarchy as their heraldic symbol but never officially use.
A panel of this Brocatelle is fully documented and photographed in the reference book Late 18th and 19th Century Textiles
Pages 96 and 97. The panel listed comes complete with exactly the same paper label attached.
In my opinion it is the same piece as in the reference book (exactly the same size etc with same rare label )
Ideal for pillows or framing
