This antique French hunt buffet has been whitewashed at some point in its history. The motifs are stylized acanthus leaves, beautifully carved cartouches, floral and foliate ornamentation, and linear representations of gadrooned lobes and acanthus leaves. The focal points are on the front bottom doors. The left door has a bird within stalks of wheat reaching with his bill for food. The right door frontage depicts a bird within stalks of flowers, also reaching for food. The top crown has motifs which are repeated on the fronts of the two drawers located in between the two sets of doors. The upper cabinet is set back and has two doors encased in beveled glass with columns on either side. All of the side panels have incised motifs of scrolling rinceau, margent and honeysuckle blossoms.
This is a beautifully carved hunt buffet from the Late 1800’s.
