Code 913-39 Circa 1820 Painted French Bureau with 'Trompe L'Oeil' Leather Top
This elegant antique, painted French bureau or desk has a most unusual painted top surface. The leather desk mat is really just a trompe l'oeil painting of a real leather desk mat, complete with surround of gilded motifs. This two drawer desk with c-scroll foliate motifs has two drop -down D-ends on either side of the rectangular central top. The stylized baluster shaped legs have small repeating raised, spiral lines for motifs as does the shaped stretcher. There are also acanthus leaves with beading motifs on the stretcher. All this rests upon four cabriolet legs having egg and gadrooned leaves, c-scrolls and foliate center blocks on four scrolled feet.
This versatile antique, painted French bureau with its wonderful trompe l'oeil leather desk mat will be an asset to any area.
Condition: Good antique condition with chips, rubs, and losses to wood and paint; age separations to wood.
