This light oak wood center table with marble top was hand-carved in France, circa 1860. The oak has been bleached at some point, revealing stunning wood grain. Removing the finish also gives more prominence to the interesting wood joinery used in construction, which includes mortise and tenon, biscuit joints, and round dowels.

An oval gray marble with white and dark gray veining complements the table. Square joints with two layers of cavetto molding allow the baluster-shaped legs to attach to the subtly molded apron. Similarly, the bases of each leg have square joints with canted edges above octagonal block feet. An undulating x-shaped stretcher with angular protuberances connects the four legs at the bottom joints.

Our oak center table with marble top was carved by a menuisier with immense skill, as indicated by the variety of joinery used. The neutral colors of both the wood and the marble allow this table to be used with a variety of styles. It can be placed in a variety of rooms from an entry hall to a library or living room.

CONDITION: Good antique condition with wear commensurate to age and use, including age separations, most notably to the feet. Light buildup and scratches to marble. Traces of the old finish can be seen in some areas.
