This is an unusual antique French pastry or butchers table in that it is quite shallow in depth, has a beautiful Rosso Verona marble, and has a base composed of large swooping C-Scroll wrought iron legs. Tables of this category are sometimes referred to as pastry tables, but were more often used in butcher shops. Butchers would use them to display freshly cut meats. The more successful butcher shops in the larger cities such as Paris or Marseilles could afford to have more extravagant and unusual display pieces. This table is no exception. The frieze just below the marble top is completely intact and made of large white florets. The scrolling iron base is complemented by bronze ornamentation.
Today, this beautiful marble and iron table can be used in a variety of ways in the home. It would go well in a kitchen or as a console in a hallway. And because it is decorated on all sides, it would a nice center table option.
CONDITION: Good antique condition with chipping to paint and rusting commensurate with age and use . Light scratches and one tiny chip to marble
