Code 513-2 18th C. French Louis XV Period Walnut Wood Buffet Deux Corps from a Boiserie
This rare and magnificent 18th C. French Walnut Wood Buffet a Deux Corps was most likely originally part of a boiserie or walnut paneled room from an exquisite and elegant property in the South of France. In antique French boiserie, most large pieces of furniture would have been seamlessly built into the walls with trim molding concealing any open spaces.
Breathtakingly tall, with nothing to interfere with one’s gaze upwards, it is truly an exceptional and elegant piece. The two pieces have a highly curved facade with the cornice and frieze curving upwards in proportion to frontal curve. It opens with two doors up and two doors down with deeply molded asymmetrical shapes surrounding the plain raised panels. You will notice that the quality of the walnut is exceptional, as well as the thick heavy hardware, locks, and hinges that are all original to the 18th C.
CONDITION: Very good condition with minor rubs, scratches and old restorations all commensurate with age.
