Code 416-4 Fantastic Pair of Late 19th Century English Crane Consoles
This unique pair of hand carved consoles has faux marble tops and were made in the late 1800's. They depict stylized cranes on a foliate rock foundation with wide spread wings upholding the tops. At some point in their history (probably 1920s-1930s), they were stripped down from their gilded surface to a beautifully distressed finish with traces of old gesso, gilding and paint. The painted faux marble tops were in keeping with the dictates of design for that period. These beautifully hand carved consoles are in the George III style.
CONDITION: Minor restorations to some leaf motifs, age separations to wooden mounds beneath bird’s feet, old cracks to faux marble tops. Please inspect photos.
