This very elegant trumeau would have originally come from a boiserie or wooden paneled room. The ornamentation in the room would have been similar throughout the paneling. There is a still life oval painting on canvas portraying a basket of flowers. It is not likely original to the trumeau, as the lower portion is folded behind the frame. It is signed and dated, 1880. The carved decorative motifs on the trumeau are stylized shells, C-scrolls, gadrooned leaves and vines.
From France, this beautiful wooden trumeau with painting on canvas at the top will be a beautiful focal point in any room. It is not common to find French trumeau mirrors left in their natural wood color.
CONDITION: Good antique condition with minor age separations to wood, minor rubs and nicks. Painting is not original to trumeau, but dated 1880. Old silvering to glass
