This period Regence giltwood mirror from France dates to the early 1700s. The focal point of the mirror’s decoration is the military trophy motif at the top center of the frame. There is a plumed helmet with a shell inside the opening, all resting in a stylized C-Scroll. There are arrows, small drums, drum sticks and more behind the helmet. Flower heads, buds, leaves and elegant scrolls are on patterned grounds on either side of the trophy motif, which motif continues down either side and at the bottom of the frame. Each side and bottom is centered by a shell motif within a scrolling cartouche. The silvered glass mirror has a few blemishes and is backed by a wooden rectangle. Measuring at just over 35 inches tall, this elegant French mirror can be used in any room of the home.
CONDITION: Good antique condition with wear commensurate with age of early 1700’s: Touch ups, small split to lower left inside molding, wear, and age separations as seen in photos.
