This elegant hand carved giltwood frame from Paris dates to the 1600’s. The outermost detail of the frame is a series of floral, foliate and berry motifs. The innermost detail of the frame is a continuous foliate molding. In between the two moldings is an indented and plain giltwood strip. Antique frames of this age were made by specialists, particularly for the upper market. A mirror or painting could be housed within this French giltwood frame.
