This antique patinated plaster putto is holding a dolphin’s mouth with one hand and a pitchfork in the other. In early Renaissance Italy, Putti represented many facets of life. The meaning of the putto with the dolphin represented the natural spirit or essence of the water and its life-giving force. Different variations of tritons and dolphins can be found on important Baroque fountains and statuary in France and Italy. This dark green putto triton will be wonderful accessory anywhere in the home.
