This magnificent, painted cast iron, fountain element has 8 spouts coming from the mascarons’ mouths at the base of the urn. It dates to the 19th Century, and its upper rim has gadrooned lobes around the periphery. There are graceful C-Scroll acanthus leaf handles above the mascarons’ heads, which have been decorated with stylized shells and scrolling ears to either side. Protruding lobes are in between each mascaron. The urn is indented at its waist, flaring out into four dolphins whose tails curl up into the waist of the urn. This rests upon a decorated base with pilasters interspersed.
The details on this unusual multiple fountain spout element are numerous. It would have been part of a larger center fountain. Today, it can be used as a unique cast iron jardiniere, but of course it can also be once again used a water feature.
CONDITION: Good antique condition with some rusting as seen in the photos. Rubs and abrasions to paint
