This highly ornamented, domed top oak trunk from Alsace dates to the late 18th century. The metal ornamentation of scroll work and foliage is original wrought iron with an old silver paint finish. The ironwork on these domed antique trunks was not purely ornamental. The iron straps helped secure and strengthen the trunk during handling. There are two handles on either side of the trunk for carrying, and a there is a large escutcheon surround the front keyhole. The trunk rests upon four flattened square feet. It has a unique look, with its pale oak wood and silver iron straps. It will look great at the end of a bed or anywhere needing a decorative antique storage solution.
CONDITION: Good antique condition with age separations, abrasions and minor losses of some metal motifs. Lock does not currently function.
