From France, this period Louis XIV (1643-1715), European oak table has straight lines which are contrasted by its shaped X stretchers. During Louis XIV’s reign, European oak was the premiere wood used on all highly visible furniture. The top of this table has two planks set within a rectangular form which has a very small bevel at its periphery. Its frieze is plain and is attached to four block corner pieces. The legs are baluster in form and are on tulip shaped feet. The X shaped stretchers have a small bevel and connect the four baluster legs with a finial at the center. Notice the shaped stretcher beneath the finial is one continuous piece of wood.
This warm, waxed oak wood French antique table will be an asset to any room.
CONDITION: Good antique condition commensurate with age of 1600’s. Old restorations to top, age separations, minor losses to wood, and abrasions.
