The variegated marble on these French cassolettes is absolutely stunning. They are mix of white, mauve, cream, and purple. Coupled with the gilt bronze embellishments, which are equally impressive, this pair of Period Napoleon III cassolettes will be the focal point of any area. The detailed gilt bronze motifs are Rams’ heads, beribboned garlands of flowers with a central drape, linear beading, and laurel leaf linear molding. These cassolettes were likely once used to burn perfums, but today they are elegant standalone accessories. They could also be re-purposed into lamps.
CONDITION: One cassolette has an old crack with chips around the lower "neck" just below where the vase form begins. Otherwise, good overall condition with some very minor pitting and oxidation to gilt bronze in areas. Marble has minor scrapes in areas.
