This fascinating Italian cabinet is most unusual in that there is a painting on its front drop leaf door. It is a depiction of a Renaissance scene with men and women in period costumes mingling in a courtyard setting. The top is surrounded by a repeating linear inverted molding. The painted door beneath is framed on the top with linear laurel leaf motifs and on the bottom with gadrooned inverted lobes. This opens and is supported by two recently added chains. The entire panel or door, is flanked on either side by carved demi-figures. The beautiful volute shaped legs curve gracefully onto two platform feet fronted by lion’s paws.
This antique Italian cabinet is carved out of walnut wood with at least one restoration made in oak (small strip of wood on side). The piece will be the focal point of any area it is placed in.
CONDITION: Good. Age separations and restorations. Piece has minor cracks, rubs , nicks, and minor losses, all commensurate with age; traces of old woodworm.
