These fantastic French painted armchairs are in the Louis XVI style. The design is unusual from most antique French armchairs that we find, and these have even more character with their distressed look of little chips and nicks throughout. We recently had them covered on muslin, so they are now ready for the upholstery of your choice. This pair of chairs has an abundance of floral and foliate motifs throughout, and the top center has the double ribbon tied laurel leaf branches. The curved back or 'en cabriolet' is flanked on either side by colonettes, capitals, and foliate finials. There are numerous linear motifs and foliate motifs included on all of the surfaces. There are also “chandelles” or fluted columns with in filled portions “en asperges” or having asparagus bud motifs. Square “die” joins also have foliate motifs on all four surfaces. These painted antique French Louis XVI armchairs are simply awaiting a wonderful choice of upholstery.
CONDITION: Chipping and losses as seen in photographs, some traces of old woodworms. Recently covered in muslin. Please inspect photos.
